The EA exam moved from Prometric to PSI

Updated October 4, 2026

If you're trying to book the Enrolled Agent exam on Prometric's site, you won't find it. Since March 1, 2026, a company called PSI runs the exam for the IRS. You now register at test-takers.psigov.us/irs.

A lot of study guides and forum posts still say "Prometric." They were written before the switch. The IRS's own page confirms the change.

How to book with PSI

The order hasn't changed. Only the place you book has.

  1. Get a PTIN from the IRS, if you don't have one yet.
  2. Create an account at PSI's IRS page and pick a part.
  3. Pay $317 for that part when you schedule.

Prefer the phone? PSI takes bookings at 844-645-2218. From outside the U.S., call 913-456-7498.

The rules that still apply

Most of the rules are the same as they were under Prometric. All of these come from the IRS FAQ:

You can test at a center or online from home, with a proctor watching through your webcam.

When you can test

This year's U.S. window runs from July 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027. There's no testing in March or April. If your parts were going to expire between May 1 and June 30, 2026, the IRS gave you two extra months. More on exam dates.

If you're outside the U.S.

International testing is on hold. The IRS had planned to open scheduling on September 1, 2026, but it hasn't set a new date. If your parts expire after May 1, 2026, they stay valid until international testing starts again.

Had a Prometric appointment?

The IRS doesn't say what happened to old Prometric bookings. Don't assume yours carried over. Log in at PSI and check that you have an appointment there. If you're not sure, call PSI.
